Family friendly things to do in Kelowna: Fall activities with kids
The cooler weather is coming! And I don’t know about you, but that’s sent me Googling for “Kelowna fall activities with kids”… Because as the seasons change, we need to find replacements for the default splash pad and park afternoons we gravitate towards in the summer.
I couldn’t find a list that I was happy with, so I thought… Why not make my own? Then this can become a helpful guide for other parents in Kelowna and West Kelowna who want to do some fun fall activities as a family. My plan is to update this list as we try places ourselves. While I’ve included a couple of things that we haven’t tried yet, I tried to keep most of the list as verified personally—meaning that we took the toddler and everyone had fun.
This is an updated list for 2023 Kelowna fall activities!
Outdoor Kelowna fall activities with kids
Stroll through a Kelowna farmer’s market
There’s markets in Kelowna on Wednesday and Saturdays, and West Kelowna on Saturdays through the summer months into October. Grab some local treats, bring home veg for dinner, and shop the artisan vendors as a family.
Walk the Myra Canyon Trestles in the fall with the kids
This is a beautiful trail a short drive from the city! I walked the Myra Canyon Trestles last year with the family. Lots of people choose to cycle, but if you have young kids, you’ll likely choose to just walk it instead. The one-way trail has 18 trestles, views of Okanagan Lake, and is gorgeous in the fall when the leaves are changing colours.
Visit a family friendly winery or cidery in Kelowna
Tell me something better than a winery that has entertainment for the kids too… I’ll wait. There’s a handful of family friendly wineries in Kelowna and West Kelowna!
- Off The Grid Organic Winery has animals… petting zoo style. Yes, please!
- Sperling Vineyards apparently has a playground for the kids. I’ve never personally been here, but it’s worth checking out.
- Truck 59 Cider House is surrounded by apple orchards. Grab a flight of cider, find a seat at a picnic table, and let your kids play in the outdoors while you watch from your spot.
Hike Knox Mountain… a family friendly trail in Kelowna
A Kelowna classic that we’ve done many times! So far, I’ve only hiked this with the toddler on my back. But it seems to be fairly easy, so littles could at least hike to the halfway point.
Alternatively, Paul’s Tomb Trail at the base of Knox Mountain is an easy, mostly flat hike that the entire family will love. The view at the end is amazing.
Try a new u-pick farm for a Kelowna fall activity with kids
My family LOVES going to u-pick farms! We go so often. It’s like grocery shopping, but an activity. And often you’re actually saving money compared to what you’d buy at the grocery store. Recently we got 12lbs of u-pick plums for $12. I made multiple plum crisps for the freezer and jam that has been a hit with everyone who tries it. Roma tomatoes, apples… Just look for what’s in season and lots of local farms to u-pick options at some point through the growing season.
Bonus points if you find one that sells ice cream too like Paynter’s Fruit Market.
Hike Mount Boucherie
Mount Boucherie in West Kelowna is an easy-ish hike (some may consider it moderate) that bigger kids could manage. I hiked with my toddler in the carrier on my back. He slept almost the whole way up and woke up as we neared the peak (smart kid). The views from the top are fantastic.
Indoor Kelowna fall activities with kids
Go to the public library—activities for babies, toddlers, and bigger kids!
We love to go to the library and visit a different library in the city weekly. It just depends on what area we’re already driving too and which has the toddler time that fits our schedule. Even if there’s no organized playgroup, we stay for a while to play with the toys that are available, do puzzles, and read a few books before choosing some to bring home.
Visit a recreation center or indoor pool.
There are plenty of indoor recreation centers and pools in Kelowna and West Kelowna—just search for one in your neighbourhood! They typically have drop-in times. But if you have littles, the kiddie pool at Parkinson Rec is fantastic for them. We like going there!
Get a smoothie and snack at Just Peachy
Okay… When I discovered this spot, I immediately fell in love. First, this smoothie bar is a vibe. The smoothies and snacks are delicious. And there’s a little play area with toys for kids. Fun for me and the toddler! He was so busy playing he hardly had time to slurp up his smoothie. We got green smoothies and a chocolate peanut butter bar that was amazing.
Get a pumpkin and visit the animals at McMillan Farms
This Kelowna local farm is known for its seasonal corn maze, pumpkin patch, hay rides, and more. Book your tickets on their website for a fun day enjoying fall in Kelowna with the kids.
Other Kelowna fall activities with kids
Organized sports, learning, and recreation
The City of Kelowna released the fall programming for all things sports, childcare, classes, and other recreation activities. however, these options are obviously more geared towards the kids enrolled versus fun for the entire family.
Family walks in your neighbourhood
Explore your own neighbourhood as the temperatures cool. We love to try new routes around where we live to see what new trails and views we can find. Sometimes we’re out for hours just wandering and enjoying the fresh air!
